Rust Funding team outlines three ways to financially support Rust development
The post points to a maintainers fund, fundable Project Goals and individual sponsorship pages.
The Rust Funding team published a guide on October 26, 2026 describing how companies and individuals can pay for work on Rust. It notes that much of the project work is still done by volunteers, and that only a fraction of contributors are currently funded.
The first route is general maintenance, such as keeping continuous integration working, updating dependencies and triaging bugs. The team suggests donating to the Rust Foundation Maintainers Fund or sponsoring the RustNL Maintainers Team, and lets the Funding team decide where the money helps most.
The second route is funding specific features through the fundable Rust Project Goals, which each describe an improvement, its owner and the teams willing to review it. The third is supporting individual contributors directly through their GitHub Sponsors accounts.
Organizations that depend on Rust can pick the option that matches their goal, or contact the Funding team to discuss support on behalf of a company.
